I Miss Me by Stephen A. Dantes

I Miss me
The real me
The innocent me
The simple me
I miss me

I miss dancing in the rain
or letting the cold river water run under my feet
Miss the sweet warmth of the sun
early at the morning’s pretentious peek
And even at the evening’s welcome with its golden tint
that shines on my copper-toned skin

I miss the songbird’s sing
chirping, perching and whistling the afternoon’s orchestra
like paper boys delivering the day’s paper
with entertainment, truth and propaganda
My ears hear the bird’s good fortune

I miss home
where mistakes are scolded with love
and motivation and praise is like daily communion
and family is the world I know
a world far concealed from the world you know
I miss me
I miss… being me
